Abel Catherine probably met Bjorn Anderson at church in Vikedal and fell in love. Her parents would not consent to their marriage because he was beneath their class. But she married him anyway in 1831 and became a farmer's wife. Afterwards her family shunned her.

After coming to America and having her husband die she was left with eight children to take care of. In 1854 she remarried Ingebrigt Amundson from Stavanger, Norway and had one son Albert. He died in 1860.

Eventually she moved to live with her daughter Dina and Rev. T. A. Torgerson a parsonage in Northwood, Iowa. When she came she brought some household objects including her loom and spinning wheel. She and Dina wove the carpeting to cover the new parsonage parlor floor 20' x 24'. She kept busy spinning, sewing and knitting. Her hands were never idle except in prayer. She was buried in Dane County by the bodies of her husband and son.

Dina's son, August, remembered his grandmother: "She was a pleasant, dignified and diligent lady. She was always neatly dressed - not fastidious, but punctilious in attire and actions. On her head she wore a cap made of netting and lace. On her breast, a von Krogh heirloom, a brooch of solid silver."
