Physician. The son of Civil War veteran Marshall H. Twitchell, he was born in Kingston, Ontario while his father was US Consul. Twitchell was educated at Queen's University in Ontario, receiving M.D. and C.M. (master of surgery) degrees. He served in the consulate in Kingston from 1898 to 1905 when his father was the Consul. Emmus Twitchell trained in the ear, nose and throat specialty with his brother, Dr. Marshall C. Twitchell and became a physician in Burlington, also serving as a Professor of Medicine at the University of Vermont. In addition, he served in the Army during World War I, seeing service in France as a Captain in the Medical Corps from 1917 to 1919.
