Rosie Louise Manka Ehlers, a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Friday, March 27, 2009, at 10:12 a.m. in the Christus VNA Hospice Facility in San Antonio at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 24 days.

Rosie was born on Aug. 31, 1920, in Panna Maria in Karnes County, the daughter of Louis Ben and Mary Jane Esparza Manka. She attended the Panna Maria schools and was a homemaker and a sales clerk with Teltschik's in Floresville.

She married Marvin Clarence Ehlers on Feb. 13, 1943, in Panna Maria. Marvin, Rosie's beloved husband of more than 61 years, preceded her in death on May 29, 2004.

Rosie was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law, Calvin Talk; her brothers, Louis Manka, Daniel Manka, and Emil Manka; and her sister, Irene Kuntz.

Rosie is survived by her children, Clarence James Ehlers and wife Joan McCloskey Ehlers of Floresville, Harry Wayne Ehlers and wife Janice Nieschwietz Ehlers of San Antonio, Patricia "Pat" Rose Ehlers Talk of San Antonio, and Gary Robert "Buck" Ehlers and wife Pamela Pavliska Ehlers of San Antonio; her grandchildren, Scott Ehlers and wife Cristina of Austin, Corey Ehlers and wife Jenni Springs Ehlers of New Braunfels, Todd Ehlers and partner, Jenni Bonds of Austin, Suzanne Ehlers Abelin and husband Laurent of Washington, D.C., Larry Ehlers and wife Laci of Austin, and Kenneth Ehlers of San Marcos; and her great-grandchildren, Riley Ehlers and Marshall Ehlers, both of New Braunfels, August Ehlers of Austin, and Paloma Rose Abelin of Washington, D.C.

Visitation began at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 29, with a rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Panna Maria, officiated by Father Phillip Henning.

Interment followed in the Panna Maria Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Rosie's grandchildren, Scott Ehlers, Corey Ehlers, Todd Ehlers, Suzanne Ehlers Abelin, Larry Ehlers, and Kenneth Ehlers.
