Julius Honesta Stevens was born in Johnston county, North Carolina. By 1855 he was in Mississippi according to depositions from friends of his for his Confederate pension. He joined Company I of the 17th Mississippi Infantry Regiment in June of 1861. He was involved in numerous battles including Gettysburg. He was captured at the Battle of High Bridge in Virginia on April 6th, 1865. He was sent to a Union prison in Point Lookout, Maryland which he remained at till being released on June 30th, 1865. He lived in Mississippi for over 40 years before moving to Texas with his family. He moved first to Johnson county, Texas and then later to Upshur county in the Big Sandy area. He worked as a farmer.
