She graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School and then from Freed-Hardeman University with a Bacherlor's in Social Work and a Master's in Education. Following her graduation in 1997 she began working with abused and neglected children at the Carl Perkins Center in Lexington TN. Two weeks before her death she began teaching first grade at Greenbrier Elementary School in Nashville TN.

She was a member of the Roebuck Parkway Church of Christ in Birmingham AL until graduating from college. She regularly went on mission trips to Belize, Mexico, and the Bahamas.

Amy was driving to work on August 24, 2000 and was killed in a car accident. More than 2,000 attended her visitation and 1,111 were present for her funeral.

"Everybody loved Amy because Amy loved everybody."

Amy gave her family the best gift of knowing the peace that she was a Christian.
