ALLIA DELPHIA ANN BRONSON & CHARLES DELBERT ROOT Allia Delphia Ann Bronson was born August 22, 1867, in Huntsville, Utah. Her parents were some of the first settlers of that community. She is the daughter of Clinton D. Bronson and Lovisa Andrews, pioneers who had trekked across the wilderness from Nauvoo to the Salt Lake Valley. Her father enlisted with the five hundred and sixty enlistees in the Mormon Battalion. When she was four years old her parents moved their family to Willard, Box Elder County, then a young growing community. Willard was first settled by just a few families in the spring of 1851 and was called North Willow Creek. About six years later, its name was changed to Willard. Out of Willard there have come some very fine leadership. Here at the base of these high, rugged, yet picturesque mountains, Allia Delphia (Delph) grew up. She attended church and school functions and later went to high school at Brigham City. She possessed a nice singing voice and was a member of the ward church choir. Her agreeable nature and pleasant personality won for her many friends and acquaintances. On the 10th of April 1889, Delph was married to Charles Delbert Root, son of Almon Sylvester and Helen Augusta Cole Root. Charles Delbert (Del) was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on the 14th day of March, 1867. Their marriage was solemnized at Willard, Utah. Three and a half years later, November 9, 1892, taking their little son Clair, they went in company with Delph's brother, George, and his wife Laura, to the Logan Temple. There they were sealed as husband and wife for time and eternity. The couple made their home in Ogden, Utah, until about 1897, when they moved to the Soda Springs area in Caribou County, Idaho. Here with Charles Delbert's parents, Almon and Helen Cole Root, they took out the first homestead right at Eight Mile, an area outside of Soda Springs village. They are mentioned in the history of the settlement of Caribou County - a book called "Tsobia" meaning sparkling waters. Del Root was a painter and contractor by trade. This good man was appointed Presiding Elder in charge of the LDS Branch of the Church at Eight Mile, in the early nineteen hundreds, prior to 1904. While rearing a family of eight, Delph found time to serve in some of the auxiliary organizations of the church. She acted as teacher, Primary President, and later Relief Society President. After her children had received their education, some had married, others were in college or in business, Delph gave up living in the old home at Soda Springs. Del had passed away from results of a former accident on April 1, 1941. So she found it convenient to travel and to visit in turn, her children and their families, all of whom were very dear to her. From New York to California, Mexico City, Miami, Florida, and other places, and cities she would go, her transportation being provided for always by a son or daughter. And here she would enjoy relaxation and the thought that she could be of service to her loved ones on many occasions. She enjoyed life and seemed to find pleasure wherever she was. Delph claimed she was 'snowed in' one winter, in the mountains at Helper, Utah, with her son and family. "But", said she, "I had a wonderful time." At the age of eighty she took her first airplane ride with her brother, Jim at Burley, Idaho. She was then ninety years of age and this was her first plane ride. In her declining years she was cared for by her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Meyer, at their home in Miami, Florida. She died at the age of ninety-four years, on the 22nd day of January 1961, at Miami. Buried Coral Gables, Florida.
