In Ward, N. Y., after an illness of several months, June 18th, 1877, Mrs. Martha Miner Allen, relict of James Allen, in the 81st year of her age. She was one of our oldest citizens, and was greatly respected. Soon after her settlement here, she was baptized by Eld. Amos Satterlee, and became a member of what was then the only Seventh-day Baptist Church in Alfred, of which she remained a member until her death. She was noted for her earnest religious life, and for her intimate acquaintance with the Holy Scriptures, which she used with great advantage in all the experiences of her long life. She was strongly attached to her birth place, Stonington, Conn., as also to her kindred and early acquaintances, often speaking of them with earnestness and tenderness.
