He was a veteran of World War I. He was a victim of epidemic influenza with several soldiers on
the ship while on a sea enroute to Europe. The story had been told that some soldiers becoming
ill with flu were moved to the top deck of a ship ready to be buried in the sea when they die. Ceaf
was one of the among sick soldiers, and was ready to be thrown overboard if he dies, but he
survived. He returned with the healthy soldiers ready for the war in Europe.
He was probably named after a former neighbor and a county sheriff, Seaf Parker.
