Homer, who resided in Newark, Delaware, served as a Staff Sergeant with the 44th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron, U.S. Army during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on March 4, 1941, prior to the war, in Trenton, New Jersey. He was noted as Single, with dependents.

Homer was "Killed In Action" in Germany during the war and was awarded a Purple Heart.

He had served in the Army for four years at the time of his death.

At the families request, his state of birth was added to his headstone (Maryland) instead of his state of residence (Delaware).
