Youngest son of immigants from Germany, he spent the majority of his life in the Dayton Ohio area. He was assistant supervisor for electrical maintenance at Dayton Power and Light when he retired in 1970 after 47 years with the company. He was active in the community and was a member of the Dayton Lodge of the F.A.&M., Helmsman Club, and Retiree's Club of D.P.& L.Co.

His older brother, Otto, named his first born son in honor of Edward. His nephew was informed that he drown while swimming off the beach in Hawaii during a vacation only a couple years after retiring.
