Most of my Stanfields worked at the Cotton Mill in Alabama City and Farmed. The ladies of the family that worked there also took in sewing and cleaned homes for extra income during the Depression years. They had gardens and yard chickens and some of the family in the rural areas had hogs. During the Depression, they shared with each other and traded among themselves vegetables and meat. They were people of faith and they were well respected in their community.

Many of Jarucia Paralee Ashley Stanfield's grandchildren, have cherished memories and fond memories of her today. I understand in talking with them, that she was a very loving Grandmother and that she had a good sense of humor. Several of her grandchildren called her "Mama" instead of Grandmother, as they were that close to her.
