She was born May 13, 1917 in Calder, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was the third of seven children born to John & Minadora Lewontiuk. The family emigrated to Redondo Beach, CA in July 1921. When her father obtained U.S. Citizenship, the family name was shortened to Leonte. Because of her striking resemblance to Marlene Dietrich, she began going by the name Marlene Leonte by the time she was in High School. She was a classic beauty, and crowned Miss Hermosa Beach.
In 1941, Marlene moved to the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles where she went to work for the War effort and met her future husband, Edward Robin. After Ed had enlisted in the Army in September 1942, Marlene followed him to New Mexico where he was completing his basic training. They were married in Deming, NM on March 26th, 1943.
After the war, Marlene and Ed settled back in Los Angeles where they raised their three children; Jerry (1953), Diane (1956) and Anne (1959). Rabbi David Baron of Temple of the Arts said "Marlene Robin was a woman with joie de vivre, and one of the most exceptional and remarkable people I have ever met". He had the entire congregation sing to her on her 93rd birthday.
She was laid to rest on July 6th, 2010.
