Jason W. Abbott, 31, of Manchester and formerly of South Windsor, beloved son of Mary Ann (Heim) Burch of Willimantic, died suddenly Thursday, (May 23, 2002). Jason was born July 7, 1970 in Manchester. He grew up in Ellington and had lived in South Windsor for many years before moving to Manchester seven years ago. He had worked for the Rogers Corp. in Manchester for almost ten years, and in 1998 he joined the Manchester Fire Dept. with Engine Co. #1. Jason received his Firefighter 1, E.M.T. and Dive Rescue Certifications, all in 1999. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant of Engine Co. #1 in 2000 and 1st Lieutenant in 2001. His other interests included riding his Harley Davidson, and as a Certified Scuba Diver he also loved other water sports, such as waterskiing and boating. Jason held a Black Belt Degree in American Kenpo Karate.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his brother, Michael Abbott and his wife Christine of Columbia; sister, Constance Marcial and her husband Hector of Windsor; brother, Steven Abbott and his wife Melissa of Ashford. He was the loving uncle "JayJay " and will be sadly missed by his seven nieces and nephews, Ashley, Mikey and Scotty Abbott of Columbia, Ricky and Jubee Marcial of Windsor, and Sarah and Meagan Abbott of Ashford. He also leaves a very special friend, Tricia Smith of Vernon; and other special friends, Venessa Orpheus of Manchester, Darrell Sacchi, also of Manchester, Jerry Rivard of East Hartford, Lisa Socha of Manchester; and all of his other brother firefighters at the Manchester Fire Dept.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, at 10:30 a.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Burial will be in the Buckland Cemetery in Manchester. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Eighth District Fire Dept., 138 Main St., Manchester, CT 06040; or to the American Heart Assoc. of Greater Hartford, 2550 US Rte 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.
