Wyley Overton South was born on June 26th, 1879 in McNairy County Tennessee to Levi South and Martha S. Lee South. Wyley's siblings were Virginia, James, Margaret, Levi, Florence, and Devro.
On November 11th, 1906, in McNairy County, Tennessee, Wyley married Minnie Lee Armstrong. The South's lived in the town of Guys. Wyley was a farmer. Minnie was a housewife and mother. They had three children. Their daughter, Ottie South, was born on August 24th, 1907. Two of their children died in infancy. One was an infant son, born on March 20th, 1912 in McNairy County Tennessee.
Though Wyley was 40 years old at the time, he registered for the WWI draft on September 12th, 1918.
Wyley had two grandsons - David Maurice Powell and Carson Dwight Powell. His daughter and grandsons lived with him and his wife for most of their lives. His wife Minnie's mother also lived with them.
Wyley died on January 20th, 1953 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis Tennessee. He was 73 years old.
