George Surrick's exact date of birth is subject to speculation. In 1860, he was a carpenter by trade, but his location remains unknown. married and had two children (one named Catherine), neither of whom he named in his pension application. At his death, lived in Lucky, York County.
Supposedly, he was a Civil War veteran who served with Co. B, 91st Pa Inf, but he has no entry in either the company descriptive list or company registry, nor does he have an entry in Bates' History of Pennsylvania Volunteers. The Interior Department, however, did grant him a military pension in 1890, so he must have served.
