from the Rutland Daily Herald, Nov. 9, 1912:
Falling the entire length of a flight of stairs, John Mylott, a veteran of the Civil war was almost instantly killed last night at his home on Watkins avenue. Mr. Mylott was subject to dizzy spells and it is thought that he was taken with one of these just after supper last night when the fall was heard by Mrs. Mylott, who was alone with him in the house.
After supper Mr. Mylott went upstairs and Mrs. Mylott went about her household duties, a daughter leaving to attend a meeting of the Woman's club. As soon as the accident happened the neighbors were called and Drs. Bellerose and J.D. Hanrahan were summoned but life was extinct before they arrived. Mr. Mylott's skull was fractured by the fall.
Mr. Mylott was born in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland, June 24, 1841, coming to this country when he was five years old, moving with his parents to Cuttingsville, afterwards living at Manchester and Danby where he enlisted at the time of the outbreak of the war. He enlisted in Company D, 7th Vermont, December 4, 1861, serving a little over four years.
After the war he resided for a short time in Danby and Dorset, moving to this city 24 years ago. In 1864, while on a furlough he was married to Mary A. McGuire, who survives him. Besides his wife he leaves three sons, William of Boston, John and Bernard of Providence, R.I., five daughters, Dr. Mary Mylott of San Francisco, Calif., Sister Loretta of Connellsville, Pa., Helen Z., Margaret and Elizabeth of this city, one brother, James of Oswego, N.Y., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Cunningham of Springfield, Mass.
Mr. Mylott was a member of the John P. Sennett post, G.A.R., of West Rutland.
The funeral will be held at St. Peter's church Monday morning at 9 o'clock.
