Just two weeks shy of her 100th birthday on July 16, Helen Ruth Bricker passed peacefully from this life on July 1, 2010, at Sterling House of Richmond, where she had resided for five years.

Helen was born at home in Richmond, Ind., to Maude and Harry Terhune. She graduated from Morton High School and worked several years at Knollenberg's Department Store before she met her sweet husband, Clifford Thomas Bricker, at First Christian Church. They had a happy marriage until Cliff died unexpectedly at the age of 57 in 1969.

While Cliff served overseas in World War II, Helen proudly worked at Perfect Circle.

Helen and Cliff had two children on whom they lovingly doted, Tom Bricker and his wife Dolly of Pekin, Ind., and Beth Davis of Pueblo, Colo., who survive. Beth's beloved husband, Mike, died in 2006. Helen's loving sister, Mary Ball, and her husband, Clay Ball of Muncie, Ind., also survive, as well as four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Helen loved First Christian Church and was an 85-year member. She helped with the first- and second-grade Sunday school class for years as well as baking hundreds of loaves of bread for the church's annual salad bar. Helen delivered Meals on Wheels into her 90s and was also a former member of the Wayne County Homemaker's Extension Club. Helen cherished her Beta Sigma Phi Sorority sisters and was a 78-year charter member. Helen enjoyed life and was skilled at many crafts, including knitting. She spent many of her last days knitting sweaters for needy children in foreign countries. Helen was also an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and nature, especially the goldfinches who frequented her Sterling House birdfeeder. Helen had a quick wit, an easy smile and was a friend to everyone she met. We will miss her sweet presence but are forever grateful for the light she shone in our lives.

The family extends deep love and appreciation to the staff at Sterling House of Richmond and Embrace Hospice who so lovingly cared for Helen. Special thanks, also, to Helen's dear friends, Millie, Lois, Betty and Alice.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday (July 7, 2010) in Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary. Rev. Amanda Hines will officiate. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday (July 6, 2010) from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Per Helen's request, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church Library Fund, 100 S. 10th St., Richmond, IN 47374.
