Harry W. Barnwell

Harry W. Barnwell, 79, of 1870 Waverland Drive died Wednesday at his residence after an extended illness. Born in Lowndes County, he lived in Bibb County since 1931, was a member and former deacon of Highland Hills Baptist Church and was a member of the building committee. He attended Georgia-Alabama Business College in Macon, was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, became chairman of the board of Clark Memorials in 1976 and was an employee of Clark Memorials for 60 years since it opened in 1931. He was past president of the Rotary Club and the Manufacturers Bureau of the Macon Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Idle Hour Country Club. The building that houses Clark Memorials was renamed Plant Barnwell after him at Clark Memorials' first employee appreciation day. Survivors: daughter, Patricia Burttram of Atlanta; sisters, Mrs. James T. McArrell and Mrs. Charles Barron, both of Macon and Mrs. Robert Noble of Indiana. Services: 11 a.m. Friday in Riverside Cemetery, entering through the north gate. The Rev. James C. Bruner will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
