Heman married Elizabeth Jane AVERY of Leyden, NY (see Boonville Ledger, July 16, 1853), the same year Heman's mother Rebecca Nash Ward died. Their 1st son Charles Rivera WARD was born in 1854 in Florence, AL where Heman was teaching school, probably at the University of North Alabama. It appears that Heman Sr. accompanied his son Heman to Alabama and died there in 1854. Heman and Elizabeth Ward also had sons William, Clarence and Edward.
Heman died of diptheria
