Fred Zobel migrated in 1883 from Posen, which was part of the German Empire. He migrated with his sister Bertha Zobel. The port of embarkation was Galveston, Texas. I never learned why they came to Texas. The earliest documentation I found for Fred was his marriage license to Martha Scheffer. I searched for him on the 1900 Census but never found him. I did find him and Martha on the 1910 census and found his naturalization papers in Washington County. He was a Bartender in a Saloon at that time. He died on 17 March 1919. His death certificate had his occupation a Merchant. I found a Card of Thanks in the Brenham Banner Press. It is as follows:
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to express our thanks to the pastor of the Fourth Street Methodist church for conducting the funeral of F. M. Zobel, and to the Lutheran minister for services rendered and sympathy extended, and to the choir for music, to all friends for the beautiful floral offerings and sympathy, to the T. E. I. Sunday school class of which Mrs. Zobel is a member and to R. O. Giesecke for his untiring effors and help during the illness and after the death of our loved one.
Mrs. Zobel and son, and Mr. and Mrs. Scheffer and family
