Carterville - Viola C. Van Buskirk, 84, of Carterville, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the home of her daughter and son in-law, Trish and Mike Helfrich.
Funeral services took place at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville, with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial was in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville.
Viola was born on Feb. 17, 1919, in Ft. Branch, Ind., to Charles B. and Ida (Conner) Gardner.
She is survived by her daugher and son in-law, Trish and Mike Helfrich of Carterville; one son and daughter in-law, Ronnie and Jean Van Buskirk of Fairfield; three granddaughters and their spouses, Tracy and Steve Taylor of Carpentersville, Katie and Gene Shaneyfelt of Pinckneyville and Sarah and Matt Barnstable of Carterville; four grandsons, Robert Van Buskirk of Fairfield, Michael Helfrich of Marion, Dan Helfrich and his wife Tonya of West Frankfort, Greg Helfrich and his wife Holly of Christopher; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Doris Richie and Vickie Robinson; two brothers, Gaylen Gardner and Bob Gardner.
Viola retired from GTE in Bloomington after 27 years of service.
She enjoyed quilting and crocheting, but most all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and the family dog.
