Leaman Archie Ammerman, the son of Archie and Mildred Pettit Ammerman, was born in Hickman County, Kentucky, on July 16, 1876, and departed this life on May 27, 1944. In early infancy, he was brought by his parents to Pendleton County, where he made his home until the time of his death. He was married on January 26, 1899, to Lucy Josephine Hardin, and thus they were privileged to observe their 45th wedding anniversary last January. To this union, six children were born: Archie Edwin, Charles Herman, Claude Thomas, Roscoe Leaman, Kenzie Lee and Mildred Josephine Thomas.
He is survived by his widow, the six children and 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Alonzo Ammerman, George Ammerman and Miss Lizzie Ammerman, of this county. Early in life, he united with the Christian church and later took membership with the Blanket Creek Baptist Church, where he remained a consistent member to the end of his life. Mr. Ammerman was one of Pendleton County’s best known, highly esteemed citizens and was noted for his friendliness and fine citizenship. He was an industrious farmer and a sympathetic neighbor and friend. His passing is a distinct loss to his faithful wife and children, as well as his many friends throughout the county.
Funeral services were conducted at the Blanket Creek Baptist Church on Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock, with Rev. I. W. Manley, of Georgetown, and Rev. R. H. Tolle, of Maysville, officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Henry Bishop, Mrs. Joseph Woodhead, Frazier Norris and Thomas Roberts, with Miss Lou Redman at the piano. Burial took place on the family lot in Riverside Cemetery. The Woodhead Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. The pallbearers were five sons and one son-in-law. The flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Blades, Lucy Kathryn Ammerman, Lillian Carol Ammerman, Harold Thomas Ammerman, Charles Donald Ammerman, Claude Thomas Ammerman and Genevieve Schanding. Out-of-town guests were Rev. and Mrs. Claude Thomas Ammerman and two sons, of Troy, Alabama, Joe Glass, of Frankfort, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Case, of Cynthiana, Miss Mary Hudson Moore, of Covington, and Cpt. John Clay Thomas, of Camp Maxey, Texas.
