Lawrence, son of Lewis and Lusetta Rose was born in Hornick, Iowa on March 28, 1900. He moved with his family to Bloomfield in 1905. They came on a train and he told of being met at the station by Rev. Ollenberg. Rev. Ollenberg took him by the hand and walked up town. Lawrence had to run to keep up. His five year old legs no match for Rev. Ollenberg's long stride. He attended Kemma School and a mechanics school in Lincoln.
Freida, oldest daughter of Wilheim and Meta Schwarz, was born at West Point, NE November 11, 1902. Her family moved to Bloomfield in 1913. She graduated from Bloomfield High School with the class of 1921. She taught school on West Point a year before getting married.
On December 27, 1922 they were married. They lived north of 1st Street and Lawrence owned several trucks. At one time he had a gas truck and delivered gas and tractor fuel to farms around Bloomfield. It caught fire while it was parked east of the depot and burned up. He often drove a motorcycle when he went out to collect. He hauled the Bloomfield High School Band in his truck to the Black Hills to play for the President in 1926. It was the only vehicle they could find that was big enough. Later he had the first trailer truck in Bloomfield and hauled livestock, making many trips to Sioux City in all kinds of weather.
After losing everything in the bank closings they moved to a farm southwest of town. Moving back into Bloomfield to an acreage on South 1st Street in 1940. He worked for WPA. drove truck for the Bloomfield Creamery and farmed.
They had five children: Wayne was born in 1923; Lee was born in 1925; Luree (Wearne)born in 1930l Norman was born in 1934; Kathleen was born in 1945 (Dan Opfer).
