Jewell Riggs - April 22, 1928 - April 30, 2011
Riggs, Jewell Christene Carter, age 83, passed from this life in Norman , Oklahoma , on April 30, 2011, to be with her Heavenly Father. Jewell was born on April 22, 1928, to parents, Walter Ray Carter and Opal Marie (Bowers) Carter in McNatt MO. Jewell attended McNatt and Goodman schools and later graduated from Duenweg High School . Following graduation she was employed with Meeker Leather Company in Joplin MO , as an administrative assistant. She married Calvin Riggs in September of 1949. Jewell and Calvin made their home together in Missouri until his death in 1983. Jewell moved to Norman OK to be with her daughter Vickie in 2007. Jewell loved her Missouri farm. She enjoyed her yard work, gardening, and her dog "Poochie". Jewell was a natural caregiver. She dedicated her life to caring for her mother, her dad, her husband, her daughter, and a very special aunt, Esther Morgan. Jewell enjoyed her many visits to Oklahoma , Texas , and New Mexico to be with family.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Calvin, on July 23, 1983; and two brothers, Charles Junior Carter and Virgil Eugene Carter. Jewell is survived by her daughter, Vickie Riggs of Norman OK; her sisters-in-law, Jan Cash and husband Nelson of Amarillo TX, Norma Carter of Carthage MO. and Gloria Carter of Alabama; her brothers-in-law, Harry Riggs and wife Gerrie of Florida and Dean Riggs and wife, Carol of Arizona; her Bowers family and Carter family cousins, Ina Carden and husband Max of Arkansas and Lester Carter of Missouri, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St. , Norman , and 12:45 P.M. - 1:15 P.M., Thursday, May 5, 2011, at the Forest Park Baptist Church Chapel, 725 S. Highview Ave. , Joplin MO.
Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, May 5, 2011, in the Forest Park Baptist Church with interment following in Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
