Ermelinda "Linda" Bencomo, formerly of Danville, died March 7, 2008, at Alden Town Manor in Cicero, Ill., from Alzheimer's. She was 85.

Mrs. Bencomo lived in Danville from 1965 to 1998. She was born in Hurley, N.M., Dec. 9, 1922. She married Emidio Bencomo on Dec. 16, 1957. He preceded her in death March 10, 1982.

Mrs. Bencomo was an avid reader. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, card games and baseball. She is survived by her children, Manuel (Paula) Carbajal of San Antonio, Texas, Eugene (Emily) Bencomo of Oakwood Ill., Emily Bencomo of River Forest, Ill., and Lawrence Bencomo of Chicago.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Mai-lin Keen and Benjamin Carbajal of San Antonio, Texas, Anthony Bencomo and Greg Bencomo of Carson City, Nev., and Barbara Whaling of Carpentersville, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren: Jessica and Ashley Keen and Riley and Mikayla Whaling. She is also survived by her sister, Teresa, and brother, Nano.

Mrs. Bencomo's visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Pape Funeral Home in Danville. The family is asking in lieu of flowers, donations be made the Alzheimer's Association in Mrs. Bencomo's name.
