Adolphus B. Capron enlisted at Union Springs to serve three years in Company K of the 111th New York Infantry. Adolphus was mustered into service as a 2nd Lieutenant on August 15, 1862. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on January 7, 1863 and was appointed as the adjutant of the regiment on June 2, 1863.

Adolphus was wounded on July 2, 1863 at Gettysburg and recovered and rejoined the regiment. At Reams Station on August 25, 1864, Adolphus was captured. He was paroled, rejoined the regiment, and was mustered out of service on June 4, 1865 near Alexandria, VA.
