Edward was the son of:

Richard Barnard Neal 1840-1910
Martha Ellen Davis 1842-1883

His parents were married in 1861 and continued to live in Kentucky until about 1882 when they moved to Missouri.

Edward was the oldest of 9 children. His eight younger siblings and their approximate dates were:

Nora Neal 1865-
Lena Cora (Neal) Burton 1867-1939
Thomas Eaton Neal 1869-
John Samuel Neal 1871-1956
Aquilla Dyson Neal 1874-1960
William Davis Neal 1878-
Harry Malcom Neal 1881-1965
Martha Elizabeth "Mattie" Neal 1883-1883

Sadly, Edward's mother died soon after the family moved to Missouri. She died on May 16, 1883 just 19 days after giving birth to Martha Elizabeth "Mattie" Neal. Edward's baby sister Mattie also died after just 3 months. Both his mother and infant sister were buried in the far east end of Hopewell Cemetery in Macon County, Missouri. Both Edward and his father would later be buried in close proximity. Edward's sister Lena Cora is also buried in this cemetery.

Thirteen years after Edward's mother died, his father Richard remarried to Harvena (Thurman) (Peyton) in Macon County, Missouri. In the 1900 census, Richard was age 26, living in the home of his father and step-mother, along with two of his brothers. This writer has been unable to find Richard in the 1910 or 1920 census records.

Richard was never married.

Richard's step-mother Harvena died in 1908 and was buried at Hopewell Cemetery beside her sister. Richard's father died in 1910 and was buried near Richard's mother at Hopewell Cemetery. When Richard died in 1923, he was buried beside his father. His Missouri Death Certificate #19258 shows his occupation as painter.
