COOKEVILLE Funeral
services for Dora Marie Burgess, 87, of Cookeville, will be held in the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home on Friday, March 3, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, March 2, from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday from 7 a.m. until time of
services.
Mrs. Burgess died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Daughter of the late Jack and Ova Whiteaker Dixon, she was born in Putnam County on Nov. 17, 1918.
Mrs. Burgess was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Her family includes two daughters and a soninlaw, Pauline and Buddy Hargis of Baxter and Barbara Ann Lewis of Cookeville; one son, Ronnie Joe Burgess of Cookeville; seven grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Cecil Burgess; a daughter, Shirley Baldwin; two sons, J.C. and Jerry Burgess; two grandsons, James Loyd Hargis and Joey Lynn Dyer; and several brothers and sisters.
