Note: this memorial updated January 15, 2018.

This memorial was originally entered with 1830 as the birth year, but that was estimated only. A edit request was received on January 14, 2018, asking for the DOB to be changed to 1825 with the birth location as New York.

This contributor, on January 15, 2018, searched the microfilmed issues of several Fairfield area newspapers that are on file at the Fairfield Public Library - although no full obituary was found, there was a brief death notice found published in the Fairfield Ledger on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 1882 (Pg. 2 Col. 6), that had the following entry:

"Deaths. - Sept. 21, in Fairfield, of inflamation of the bowels, David Morien (sic), aged 58 years, 9 months."

The given surname spelling notwithstanding, the aged information calculates to a DOB of Dec. 21, 1823, which appears to be fairly well consistent with other census and other records found on Ancestry, though obviously there can and probably is some rounding issues to be aware of (1823, 1824, 1825, though the 1830 year may not be within the margin of error).

As a result, am changing the DOB for this memorial to be Dec. 21, 1823 and the birth location to be New York.

It should be also noted that Iowa did not mandate birth and death records to be officially recorded until 1880, and even after that time there were often many deaths that were not recorded with the county recorder, sometimes simply because the family or attending physician did not know about the mandate or were not used to reporting at that point in time. For whatever reason, it does not appear that David's death was officially recorded using either the "Morein" or "Morien" surname, nor was there a probate file entered for him following his death.

This memorial was originally entered with a DOB of September 22, 1882 in what appears to be an error by this contributor. The DOD is being changed to Sept. 21, 1882, with the death location noted as Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa, per the death listing cited above.

Census records for 1860 in Illinois appear to show that David was a son of a John and Mary Morein in Salem, Knox county, Illinois. They do not appear, though, to have F/A/G memorials at this time (Jan. 15,2018) to link to - not all cemeteries have been canvassed and burials entered with memorials, so perhaps at some point their burial location will be established and legitimate (not burial unknown) memorials will be made so that parent relationship links to them can be made.

------------------------

Husband of Alma Alder Morein (a/k/a Mary Alma Alder Morein). Her obituary cited their marriage to be in October 1855 in Fulton County, Illinois. However, there appear to be credible documents found on Ancestry for marriage records that cite the marriage as being on October 19, 1854, but in Knox, Illinois. Not entirely sure if that meant Knox county, or a town/city of Knox that may be in Fulton county, Illinois. Any clarification would be appreciated.

Children:

Edward Morein, died aged 9 per the mother's obituary, but DOB/DOD and burial location not known at this time. Any information about his burial location would be appreciated for relationship links.

Frank G. Morein, b. about 1861, d. Oct. 5, 1932 and buried in Los Angeles, Calif. (# 102851148)
