Graduate of Polkton High School in 1936; WWII veteran and served in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He was awarded one Silver and three Bronze Stars.
He married the former, Ruth Hoyle of Shelby, NC on April 14, 1946. They returned to Anson County in 1949 and began a lifelong caree in farming.
At the age of 12 he was baptized at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He was a lifelong member of Brown Creek Baptist Church.
His wife, Ruth preceded him in death. Surviving are his children, Nancy W. Bricker and husband, Tommy of Polkton, NC and Lou Ann W. Prud'homme of Charlotte, NC; granchildren, Joshua W. Bricker of Huntersville, NC and Cherilyn Crawford and Ali Prud'homme, both of Fort Mill, SC; brother, Boyce Winfield and wife, Mary of Polkton, NC; sisters, Mrs. Laura Mae W. Edwards of Polkton, NC and Mrs. Sarah W. Icard of Evergreen, NC; sister-in-laws, Mrs. Clif (Helen) Martin of Polkton, NC and Mrs. Aileen Gardner of Shelby, NC.
