John Robb Clarke, Reno Attorney, Dies

John Robb Clarke, veteran Reno attorney and a Nevada resident for 48 years, died Sunday in a Reno hospital.

Mr. Clarke, 82, was born in Greensburg, Pa., and after graduating from high school there he received his A.B. and M.A. degrees from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. He received his L.L.B. degree from Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1914.

Commencing the practice of law in Pennsylvania in 1913, Mr. Clarke also served on the Greensburg school board and city council. During World War I he was a major in air service, and served in France as commander of the 222nd Aero Squadron. He moved to Nevada after his service and was admitted to the practice of law in this state in 1921.

Mr. Clarke served as a lieutenant colonel on the staffs of three Nevada governors, James G. Scrugham, Fred B. Balzar and Morley Griswold. He was Democratic nominee for state controller in the 1930 election and long took an active interest in politics.

Mr. Clarke was a member of the America, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Washoe County bar associations. Theta Upsilon Omega fraternity, the Commerical Law League of America, The American Legion, the Reserve Officers Association of the United States, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Reno Lodge of Elks, Reno Aerie No. 207, Fraternal Order of Eagles; Reno Lodge No. 14, IOOF, Nevada Rebekah Lodge No. 7, Amith Lodge No 8, Knights of Pythias, and the Modern Woodmen of America.

Surviving are his wife, Dona D. Clarke of Reno; two daughters, Josephine Ruth Clarke of reno and Claire Egan of Gross Points Farms, Mich.; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren and a brother, Frank N. Clarke of Reno.

A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 tonight in the Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of the Little Flower. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery.
