Article - (from Geddes family history (1980) at Algonquin College, Perth, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada):
Daniel Geddes was born in Scotland in the Glasgow area April 26, 1823, second in the family of David Geddes and Agnes Lambie. His parents came to Canada in 1827 and located in Township of North Sherbrooke, Lanark County, province of Ontario, a few miles east of Snow Road. Daniel attended school in the area and as a young man located on Lot 12, Concession 1 in the Township of North Sherbrooke about a mile west of Dalhousie Lake. He married Nancy Ferguson, a daughter of Duncan Ferguson and Barbara Currie, in St. Andrew's Church, Perth, Ontario on October 18, 1850. Nancy was born May 23, 1830. Through hard work the land was cleared and Daniel became a successful farmer. The first home on the property is still standing and is used as a machinery shed. It was built of logs and was replaced by a frame house in the 1890's. To Daniel and Nancy a family of eleven was born, five girls and six boys. With the exception of Duncan who died of pneumonia at the age of twenty-six, they all lived to a "ripe old age". When Daniel reached the age when he was unable to continue working, the farm was taken over by his son Daniel, who was commonly known as Dan's Dan. He continued to live with his son and the other members of the family, living in Ontario, spending about a month at a time with each. Daniel and Nancy were living with their daughter Agnes, on the outskirts of the Village of Lanark in October, 1908, when they contracted an illness from which they both died within five days. They are buried in Crawford Cemetery, Dalhousie Township.
