James Clinton Sweatman, 70, of Ripley, died April 14, 1995, at Tippah County Hospital. He was a Congregational Methodist, retired from the Army Defense Depot in Memphis as inventory clerk, and a life member of DAV and VFW. He was a Veteran of WW II. Services were April 16 at 4 pm at McBride Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Lowry Cemetery. Bro C.B. Cubbins officiated. Survivors include his wife, Essie Mae Sweatman, Ripley; one son, Rick Sweatman, Mayfield, KY; one daughter, Ann Whitehead, Ripley; four brothers, Ernest Sweatman, Hollis Sweatman, Fagin Sweatman, and Verner Sweatman, all of Ripley; two sisters, Verna Garner, Ripley, and Elaine McMillin, Falkner; 5 grandsons. He was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Stewart. Pallbearers were Richie Spence, Scott Sweatman, Brandon Sweatman, Tony Wright, Jason Carroll, Glen Sweatman, Howard Garner, Layne Jeter, James Garner, and Mike McMillin.
