"Mary and her friend Mrs. Amelia Savage were in the area to have a noon meal at her daughters place. After lunch they drove to Heistand's General Store to purchase yard goods for new dresses and shoes. The rail crossing near the Schuylkill Canal, being on a curve in the road leading to Linfield by Parkerford. They may have not heard the whistle or thought they could beat the train. The fast moving 2:30 p.m. train killed a horse and both buggy passengers.
Mary Kauffman Ludy Hunsberger was buried Friday, March 16, 1900 at Mennonite Cemetery, East Coventry, PA. Amelia was buried the next day, in the same cemetery." donated by Daria Purcel Lara Sept 2005
