Clara M. Scopazzi, or Clare as she preferred to be known, left us on July 9, 2007 in Arlington, WA. Clare was born January 31, 1922 on a homestead near Hinsdale, MT to Hilda O. and Michael L. Schons. At the age of 3 she moved with her family to Bellingham, WA. In 1942, Clare entered Registered Nurse's training at Providence Hospital in Everett after completing prerequisites at Western Washington College in Bellingham. After receiving her nursing degree, Clare traveled across the country with her friend Marnie, working at hospitals from New York to New Orleans and eventually to San Francisco. There she worked as a surgical scrub nurse for 15 years. On September 12, 1966, Clare married John Scopazzi. The Scopazzis settled at Boulder Creek, CA and Clare began working at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. When Johnny could get away from his restaurant, he and Clare enjoyed traveling. In 1975, Clare suffered a terrible fall which left her unable to continue to work as a nurse. She continued living in California until 2002, when she moved to Arlington to be closer to family. She is survived by her sister Helen B. O'Grady of Everett, brother Michael L. Schons of Union Gap, WA and many nieces and nephews. Clare was preceded in death by her sister Ann L. Wilson of Marysville, WA and former husband John Scopazzi of Boulder Creek, CA. There will be a Mass in her memory on July 19, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1200 E. 5th St., Arlington, WA, reception to follow. Dear Aunt Babe: We love you and miss you! From all your favorite nieces and nephews.
