The obituary for Valentine Barnhart, Sr. stated that he had died May 7, 1905 at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. E. C. Andrews in Gays. Burial was at Ash Grove. He was born in Fairfield Co., OH, Jan. 17, 1832. He married Cynthia Rice, Mar. 15, 1855 and they became the parents of six children. She and three children preceded in death. Surviving were sons, Henry W., John D. and Thomas E. The Barnhart family had moved to this community from Ohio in 1865. Windsor Gazette - 11 May 1905
