Col. (Ret) Ernest A. Montemayor Sailor, Soldier, Airman, Father, Husband, Patriot and Genealogist entered rest July 16, 2009 at the age of 81. Born in Philadelphia, PA. in 1928, Ernest was raised in San Antonio. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, Army and Air force where he advanced through every rank from Private to Colonel (Mustang) during the periods of World War II, Korea and the Vietnam Wars. After retirement, Col. Montemayor returned to San Antonio to focus on his passion…History & Genealogy. Here, he married the love of his life, the former Estela Ramirez in 1990. He is survived by his wife of 18 ½ years, Estela, his daughter Rosalinda Chaney (Dean), his sons Miguel (Beverly), and Diego Duran (from a previous marriage) and his brother Arthur (Julie). He has four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Gone but never forgotten!A visitation will be from 5:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A 10:00 a.m., Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Interment to follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The American Lung Association.

VET WAITS FOR 17th BIRTHDAY
Ernest Montemayor, 16, of 325 Nolan St., a former Light carrier, is waiting to become old enough to rejoin the U.S. Navy. On May 19, 1945 he will be 17 and can go back into the armed forces. He has had a year of service including a tour of duty in the Pacific on an aircraft carrier which saw action but was discharged when it was discovered he was only 15 when he enlisted.
His brother, Arthur, also a former Light carrier, is in England with the signal corps.
