Dorothy (Comstock) Ricke was born in Carroll, IA and lived in Auburn until her graduation from Auburn High School. Her parents were both grandchildren of early pioneer families of Calhoun, Sac and Ida counties. These included Ebenezer and Eliza (Lockwood) Comstock, Peter and Mary (Whitworth) Basler, John and Maria (Kaping) Behrend and William and Sarah (Whiteman) Toop.
After attending Lindenwood College, Dorothy graduated from the University of Iowa in 1933 and did graduate studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She taught English and Reading in the Emerson-Wales High School 1958-1961 and then at Lewis Central of Council Bluffs until retiring in 1983. She was married to William Ricke in 1937 and they divorced in 1957.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Robert Ricke of Council Bluffs, and daughters Martha McQuirter of Irving, Tx; Mary Susan Evans of Bettendorf, and Bonnie Griffin of Madison, WI. Other survivors include a sister, Mary Florence Gray, of Cedar Rapids; a half-sister, Pat Dieckman of Wickenburg, AZ, thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
