Willis was a direct descendant of Sabbath Clark of Tarvin, Cheshire, England (1587 to 1663) and of Sabbath's son Daniel (1622 to 1710). Daniel Clark immigrated from England to Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1639, was a lawyer, Secretary of the Colony, a judge at some of the "witch trials", Co-founder of the colony of Connecticut and his great grandson, Oliver Wolcott, was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. In 1806, Willis Clark and his parents (Arunah and Mindwell Clark) "led a migration of one third of the population of Granville, Massachusetts, across the Alleghenies to the 'wilderness of Ohio' and started Granville, Ohio." "The trip was by covered wagons and ox teams and took 47 days." Willis became a blacksmith and moved to Toldeo, Illinois in approx. 1863. He married Elizabeth W.Brockway. They had six children including Franklin, Volney and Clara Mona.
Willis lived to be 96 years and 14 days old - "the oldest person in Cumberland, County, Illinois" when he died.
