John S. Andrzejczyk retired in 1986 as an inspector at U.S. Steel Corp. in Lorain, where he worked for 37 years. Mr. Andrzejczyk, 69, a lifelong Elyria resident, died Thursday at EMH Regional Medical Center. He had heart problems.

He served in the Army's 37th Infantry in the Pacific during World War II. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the United Polish Club, both in Elyria.

When he was younger, he liked to bowl. In recent years, he tended a vegetable garden. Mr. Andrzejczyk especially loved horse racing and casino gambling. Every year, he went on weekend excursions to the Mountaineer Park racetrack in Chester, W.Va., or Atlantic City, N.J., with a group of friends.

He often took vacations to both places with his wife, Pearl, his children and grandchildren. His wife, to whom he had been married 45 years, died in 1992.

Survivors include his daughters, Gloria Krajeski and Marsha, both of Elyria, and Cynthia of Avon Lake; three grandchildren; and two sisters
