GALESBURG - Mary Virginia Polite, 91, Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Galesburg, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, in New Mexico.
She was born Jan. 20, 1919, in Galesburg, the daughter of William and Louise Burns Worden. She married Douglas William Polite on June 9, 1938, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg. He preceded her in death in 1998. Surviving are five sons, Douglas Jr. (Rosalie) of Sherman, Patrick (Rhonda) of Granger, Ind., Michael (Danica) of Libertyville, Philip (Sandy Huber) of Dorsey, and Frank (Rhonda) of Dunlap; two daughters, Mary (Rick) Cline of Orion and Patrice (John) Smedinghoff of Albuquerque. Also surviving are a brother, Robert (Peggy) Worden of Arizona; sister-in-law, Lorraine Worden of Galesburg; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded by two brothers, Ed and Bill, and two sisters, Kate and Betty.
Mary was a homemaker. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Foresters.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 1, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Watson Funeral Home with the rosary at 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi, Costa Catholic Academy, or the Alzheimer's Association . Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.watsonfh.net.
