There is a Veterans' flag holder for the Civil War beside this stone. On Page 178 of the "History of Wapello County, Iowa, and Representative Citizens," edited by Capt. S.B. Evans and published in 1901, there is a listing for Corp. R.D. Lyon, under Company E of the Fifty-Seventh Infantry. Corp. Lyon enlisted on Sept. 20, 1862, and was discharged with a disability on May 26, 1864.
