Thomas M. (Gum) Bacon, 84, of Rt. 6. Jonesboro, died at his home at 2:30 p. m. Sunday following an illness of a few weeks.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Preston Bacon, pioneer residents of Washington County and spent his entire life in the 13th District of the county. He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Laura Bacon: three sons, Earl and Eugene Bacon of Jonesboro, and Henry Bacon of Kingsport; two daughters, Mrs. A. L. Mitchell of Jonesboro, and Mrs. F. P. Painter of Fall Branch; 2 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Morris Funeral Home is in charge.
