He was the son of Earl Culbertson and Helen Knowles Culbertson.
It is uncertain where he was born, a Tree on Ancestry says Grants Pass Or but in two census that place is not mentioned, he is in SD in 1920 and 1930 and it says he was born in Montana.
He had siblings Ada, Mary and Guy.

Earl and his wife Betty built their home on Old Chesterbrook Road near Falls Church VA. He laid the block and did most of the work.During the construction they lived in the basement for many years.
Earl went from South Dakota to Los Angeles, before coming to Washington DC to work for the government. He was called in to active service with the DC National Guard 29th Division US Army, in February of 1941.Becaue of the attack on Pearl Harbour he was in the Army going to England in October of 1942 and participated in the Omaha Beach landing in Normandy where he was shot through the lung my a sniper. He remained in the hospital until October when he returned to the 121st Combat Engineers until he was discharged under the point system in June of 1945.
After the war he worked as a bus driver and stationary engineer. The house they built had seven different addresses, where they live there, Falls Church and McLean. Because of sever arthritis Earl had to retire early. They sold the house and moved to Pensylvania where they purchased a Condo. Earl got sick and went to the hospital ,he fell there and broke his hip, it was not discovered right away and he died of complications from the broken hip.
