Mary Ellen Curtis, 85, of St. Clair was born on November 27, 1904 at St. Clair, daughter of the late William Russell Phillips and Mary Arnold Phillips. On March 25, 1951, she was united in marriage to Homer Jackson Curtis. Mary Ellen died November 10, 1990.
She is survived by her sister, Maleta Barber, of St. Clair; two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Pate, Jack, Daniel and William N. Phillips; and three sisters, Mahala Cartwright, Jenny Banderman and Alice Duncan.
Ellen was a Christian and a lifelong member of St. Clair First Baptist Church, having been baptized in 1924. She had also enjoyed membership in the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 96.
She had many hobbies and interests during her lifetime, including sewing, raising flowers in her yard and crocheting, but her favorite pastime was to make beautiful handsewn quilts for members of her precious family, which meant so very much to her. These works of art will now be treasured keepsakes that her family will hold dear forever.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 12, 1990 at Russell Colonial Chapel in St. Clair, with the Reverends Raymond Laramore and Milo Haynes officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Lonedell.
