Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until November 19, 1945.

Marvin served as a Sergeant & Crew Member on B-17F "Pluto" #41-24384, Headquarters, V Bomber Command, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Kings County, New York prior to the war.

B-17F #41-24384 took off from 7-Mile Drome near Port Moresby on a reconnaissance / administrative flight to Merauke and Horn Island, then was scheduled to return to 7-Mile Drome. After a radio check Twenty minutes after take off this B-17 was never heard from again.

Marvin was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the "Silver Star with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster" and the Purple Heart.

Those who perished on B-17F #41-24384:

The records and the MACR are unclear as to what each Airman's assignment was on the B-17. The MACR lists Gen Ramey & LtCol Chaffin as the Pilot & Co-Pilot however that might have only been done because they were the ranking members of the flight.

There also was only one passenger on the flight and that was LCdr Mannoccir.
