Charles McClain Snodgrass was the son of William Snodgrass and Eliza Ellen Jett. He was a cowboy and rode the pony express as a young man. Later, after marrying the love of his life, Rillie Belle, he became a farmer. Far from settled down, Charles was restless and moved his family from Kansas to Texas to Missouri and back. He never could reconcile his life to modern conveniences and liked to "set by a far". He played the harmonica and loved his grandchildren.
