Mrs. Rachel F. Nelson, who for a number years has been living alone in the old home place of her father, the lamented Allen H. Greer, on North Randolph Street, was found by a neighbor early Tuesday morning in her kitchen, dead, broom in hand and apparently having dropped dead while preparing for her supper of the evening before. There was not the slightest evidence upon which to base even a suspicion of foul play, no appearance of anything missing or disturbed about the house, and the cap of the stove was off, showing the wood and splinters ready for Mrs. Nelson to strike for her evening meal.
Though she was in good health for one of her age, having lived to be nearly three score and ten, from all appearances, she died suddenly and without a struggle. Neighbors had left her cheerful as unual probably not longer than a half hour before the summons came.
Her death causes great sorrow among her many friends. She lived a godly life, full of christian sweetness. She was a life long member of the Methodist Church and always tried to do her duty. She has passed through many sorrows, the death of her father, then the taking away of a bright manly son, and lastly the loss of her brother and last near relative, C. A. Greer, who was her all, who preceded her in death two weeks ago. In all these affliction, however, she was resigned to the Divine Will, and went her lonely way, scattering seeds of kindness every where.
She is survived by her nephew, Leon C. Greer, a niece Miss Lucile Greer, a nephew, E. E. Greer of Atlanta and her cousins, R. L. Greer, Dr. Chas. A. Greer, and Mrs Susie Sutton.
