Azariah Patrick was the son of John Cubine and Elizabeth Harmon. He married Melvina Melvin about 1854. They had five children: Elizabeth, George, William, John, and Rhoda Lucinda. (Elizabeth and George died between 1860 and 1870.)
The family emigrated to Sullivan County, Tennesse about 1859.
Azariah enlisted into Company G, 8th East Tennessee Infantry, Union Army on 30 Jun 1863. He soon after caught typhoid fever while training at Camp Nelson, Jessamine County, Kentucky, and died 6 Sep 1863. He was buried at the cemetery there on 7 Sep 1863.
Melvina never remarried and moved her family back to Bland County, Virginia before Jun 1870.
At the time of her death in 1917, she was residing with her only living child John in Scioto County, Ohio.
