Mrs. Fannie Benfield, 81, of Rt. 3 Newland,
died Wednesday, June 5, in Valdese hosp.
A native of Avery County, she was a daughter
of the late William and Julia Vance Carpenter
and the widow of Joe Benfield who died in
1955.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs Pearl
Lowman, Mrs. Hope Vance, Mrs. Opal Woody
of Morganton and Mrs. Dorothy Lunsford of
Rhodhiss; a son, Billy Benfield of Statesville;
three sisters, Mrs. Tempie Ingram, Mrs.
Zoda Benfield, and Mrs. Zona Shook of
Newland; three brothers, Robert, Thurman,
and Dellie Carpenter of Newland; 19
grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Big
Meadows Baptist Church, of which she
was a member.
The Rev. James Beaver officiated. Burial
was in the church cemetery.
